Wild Beats live out in the open
In the grass, by the streams, on the verges. Walk up quietly: run, and the skittish ones bolt.

042beats is an open-world adventure set in the real streets of Enugu, the Coal City. Befriend Beats drawn from Nigerian folklore, ride the kekes and buses, eat okpa at the roadside, meet other players and write your own story. It plays right in your browser.
Enugu street by street, from Okpara Square to Ogbete Market, built from open map data.
31 Beats from Nigerian stories. Battle them, seal a pact with an Udu, train them up.
Proximity chat and voice, parties, trading, friendly duels and a ranked season.
The Ledger: a city-wide mystery where your choices change who you can trust.
Meet the Beats
People here make pacts with them, and call each one a Beat. These are the game's real models: drag one to turn it, or pick another. Mbeku, Zomo and Ogolo are the three you can start with.

“It talks its way into every feast and out of every consequence — almost.”
Mbeku gather where the tortoise's tales are still told — courtyards, market benches, moonlight story circles — as if they like to hear about themselves. Young Mbeku have glossy, unbroken shells and a bottomless appetite for other Beats' good fortune.
A day in the Coal City
Wild Beats in the bush, battles on the verge, buses to catch, food to eat and a market that never sleeps. Here's what a day can look like.
In the grass, by the streams, on the verges. Walk up quietly: run, and the skittish ones bolt.
Every move costs Breath. Spend it on a big hit, or hold back and outlast them.
Weaken a Beat, roll a clay Udu its way and hope it holds.
Food keeps you fed and healthy and gives you buffs; a cold drink puts your stamina back. Ask anyone where the best is.
Catch a city bus with other players, or flag a keke for the places buses don't go. Next time, skip the journey.
Proximity chat and voice, parties and friends.
Ụsụ pour out of the trees at sunset, Kura prowls the market stalls, and Agụ… you didn't see it. It saw you.
A city-wide mystery of forged permits and quiet levies. No good-or-evil meter: people remember what you did.
The world
158,118 buildings and 11,581 roads come from OpenStreetMap, so the city you play in is the city you know. The lines are the game's real bus routes.

Every Beatkeeper arrives here. A researcher on the square has your first job, and the Okpara Exchange pavilion is a short walk away.

Told with care
Every Beat keeps what the tradition actually says, with sources, apart from what we invented. Sacred beings are never collectible, and entries wait for native-speaker and scholar review before launch.
